In olden times, the Kannanchery street was flooded with various types of vendors selling vegetables, fruits, cereals and house-hold materials, including bangles, toys, utensils on all Fridays of the Mandala Pooja. Gambling such as ANA MAYIL OTTAKAM was also allowed for amusement and entertainment. Friday Markets were very popular in the Nineteen Fifties and the sixties and gradually they ceased to exist, presumably due to the availability of all food items at the permanent shops in the street. The system is resumed recently but progressing at a slow pace.
